LegaTafo LegeDadis’ Mayor, Mrs. Habiba Siraj Bekele, has launched the Elnet Foundation and Gudina Tumsa Foundation LYSEE Project!

LegaTafo Lega-Dadi is one of the fastest growing towns around the Addis Ababa/Finfinne area. As a home to many industries, real-estate companies and beautiful villages surrounding the city has made it to grow rapidly. The percentage of people who migrate to LegaTafo town from the surrounding rural areas has shown an unprecedented rate. This has considerably increased the percentage of youth unemployment, which has called for immediate intervention by different stakeholders.Hence, Elnet Foundation together with Gudina Tumsa Foundation have joined hands to address this pertinent issue of youth unemployment via its project called LYSEE (Legetafo LegeDadi Youth Social and Economic Empowerment). This project includes the establishment of four factories focused on the textile, pottery and handicraft industry. The project is started in 2021 and has a lifespan of three years, and it will at the end of the project have seen 2,000 young people employed in the textile and garment industry, and in pottery and basketry making; for the textile trainees they will even become owners of the sewing machines. The total project budget is 33 million birr, to be funded by Elnet Foundation. The mayor of LegeTafo and the Deputy Mayor has played a great role in facilitating for these youth to be supported in this project by providing working spaces and trainings for them. At Elnet Foundation we are grateful for all partners who have shown great enthusiasm and proactive support in addressing the issue of youth unemployment in LegeTafo through this project!
